The Hermann Wurst Haus won thirteen prestigious awards for our artisan, handcrafted smoked and fresh sausages, and jerky on Saturday, March 26th at Hermann’s annual Wurstfest competition.
The Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored the Annual Wurstfest competition, a statewide contest among gourmet sausage makers.
Hermann Wurst Haus received thirteen awards including six Grand Champion awards for Fresh Pork Sausage (Breakfast Sausage), Olde World Style (Blood Sausage), Exotic Sausage (Peppered Elk Summer Sausage), Sommer Sausage Cooked (Thuringer), Smoked Jerky – Restructured (Original Ground & Formed Jerky), and Smoked Pork Sausage (Smoked Breakfast Sausage); Reserve Grand Champion award for Braunschweiger; and Champion awards for Italian Sausage, Fresh Bratwurst (German Style), Smoked Jerky – Whole Muscle (Honey BBQ), Andouille (fresh), Specialty Wurst Cooked (Bacon Cheddar Potato Bratwurst) and Traditional Sommer Sausage (Naturally Aged Summer Sausage).
This prestigious event attracts amateur and professional sausage makers from throughout Missouri. Judges evaluated over 62 entries in 24 professional and amateur categories.
This year’s winners were determined by a panel of meat industry judges from all over the state.
More than 2,000 visitors attended this year’s event held at Stone Hill Winery and the Hermannhof Festhalle in Hermann. Visitors sampled the various gourmet sausages from 6 sausage vendors. German music, the Wurstjaeger dancers and German Dance Group Wir Tanzen were enjoyed by all.
